Here are the top-3 reasons to spend your tax refund on a new AC

If you’re like most Americans, you’ve got a nice tax refund check on its way. You could go crazy and squander it—or you could use it to make your life more enjoyable for months and years to come. How? By buying a new air conditioner.

Take a look at three top reasons why this spring is the right time to buy your new air conditioner.

When do most people call to get a new air conditioner? You guessed it—when their old one finally gives up the ghost for good, which usually happens during the blazing heat of summer. You may have to wait several days to get the help you need.

Instead, use that tax return to get your air conditioning system replaced now, especially if you already know it’s about 15 years-old and starting to show signs of wear. Think how great it’ll feel in a few months to push the “Cool” button and know that refreshing, chilled air is seconds away.

It’s the smart thing to do for your wallet and the environment

When you install a new air conditioner, your bank accounts all smile with relief. It’s easy to spend as much on AC repairs to an older air conditioning system that’s outlived its expected life span as you’d spend on a new air conditioner—and your new air conditioner is going to lower your summertime energy bills, since—as a Trane—it was designed with the environment and energy conservation in mind.

In addition, an updated air conditioning system increases the value of your home, so it pays off not just in cooler air and lower expenses now, but in the future as well.

Spend your tax refund on an upgrade for your home and comfort

It’s easy to forget about how much you love your air conditioner during the winter when the weather is colder. Now that we’re in summer, you want the comfort that only a new, reliable air conditioner can provide. Keep your entire family happy all summer long by replacing that aging air conditioner now, before you need it, and while you have that unexpected tax refund ready for use.

At Air Control Home Services in Lake Havasu City, we’re ready to help you enjoy the comfort that only a new AC can bring. Contact us today to see how we can help you lower your expenses while increasing your sense of chill.

Here are our best garbage disposal cleaning tips

There’s nothing quite as underrated in the kitchen as an in-sink garbage disposal. While you shouldn’t use it as a trash bin, it’s useful for disposing of small pieces of organic waste. In this blog, we’re going to review the best garbage disposal cleaning tips, and how you should go about cleaning your system.

Air Control Home Services offers professional drain cleaning services here in Lake Havasu City. When you need emergency plumbing services, contact us or give us a call at (928) 680-0600.

Start by running the disposal with water to clear any remaining food waste. After a few seconds, turn off the disposal. Depending on the age of your home or the setup, you may be able to physically unplug the disposal from beneath your sink; otherwise, you’ll need to cut power to the fuse.

Why? Well, for obvious reasons, one of the worst things that can happen when cleaning an in-sink garbage disposal is to have it turn on while your hand is in it. Many modern kitchens have buttons or switches for the disposal within reach of the sink. Just don’t take that risk.

#2. Put in baking soda, add vinegar, and then brush clean

Many homeowners tend to reach for harsher chemicals (including bleach) when cleaning their garbage disposal. However, bleach can actually harden grease in your pipes and disposal, which can lead to the need for professional drain cleaning. Instead, we recommend using baking soda and vinegar.

Use an old toothbrush to scrub the drain clean with the now-fizzing baking soda and vinegar solution. While this is happening, heat up some water in a kettle on the stove. After you’ve finished brushing, remove the brush and your hand from the disposal. Turn back on the power to the unit, and then run it, pouring the boiling water down at the same time.

#3. Now add ice cubes and salt

Run some cold water from the tap to clear away the hot water from earlier. Now, throw in about two cups of ice cubes into the disposal. Add one cup of rock salt. (If you don’t have rock salt, you can use kosher salt, or sea salt, as a substitute)

Turn on the disposal. The combination of the ice grinding with the salt will not only clean the disposal, but it’ll also help to keep the blades sharp.

#4. It’s time for some citrus

You can eliminate odors by throwing a few clean citrus peels into your disposal and running it. As they’re ground up, lime, lemon, or orange peels will release oils that make your garbage disposal smell fresh and new. Plus, the acid in the citrus will be a final cleaning step for those blades.
